Do you have an iPhone that might have slowed down over the last year? Apple has admitted or confessed that it has added code to IOS, the operating system of the iPhone, that slows down older iPhones. Apple provided a reasonable excuse after they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

If you are a conspiracy theorist, you could believe that Apple slowed down the iPhones to urge customers to buy a new and faster phone. Apple’s explanation is the older phones are slowed down to extend the usable service life of the battery. You might question, “Why didn’t Apple divulge the information before being “caught”?”. A confession before being caught would have made Apple’s explanation more believable. There are currently a few lawsuits in process. It will be interesting what the courts decide.

After Apple was caught, it has initiated a low cost battery repair. Apple will replace iPhone 8, 7, 6, and SE batteries for only $29. Evidently, the new code checks for battery condition and will slow down an iPhone with a degraded battery. This procedure will extend the usable battery life of the iPhone. A new battery will restore the iPhone to its speedy former self. $29 is a pretty good deal to extend your iPhone serviceable life. Apple previously charged $79 for a battery replacement.

It is rumored that Apple will release an app to detect the battery condition. It is much better to have an indication of battery life instead of a dead iPhone usually when you REALLY need to make a call. A new phone battery should probably give a day of service without any battery exhaustion. After a year or so, you should notice some battery degradation. YMMV, Your Mileage May Vary… Everyone’s cell activities vary. If you are constantly on the phone, gaming, or Internet surfing, expect your battery to discharge more rapidly than someone who uses their phone for a few phone calls.

If you notice that your cell phone doesn’t work as quickly as it used to when it was new, the problem might be programs installed that are running without your knowledge. Before you get too worried about your battery condition, make sure that you terminate any unneeded programs. It is best to uninstall any programs that you don’t plan to use in the future.

Don’t get caught in free programs offers. There are a lot of programs that will claim to be a free game but it may also check your personal information secretly. Make sure you know the source of anything that you download and also check out any online reviews.

Your cell phone is just another computer that you use during a normal day. It has the same problems as a computer on your desk.
